Optimisation: Overview
One of the core specialisations at Point to Point is that of Optimisation, which is based on maintaining, ensuring and improving performance throughout our customer’s IT environment. The ultimate aim of our focus in this area is to enable customers’ businesses to become more effective, and to improve performance and productivity wherever possible. Our approach to Optimisation is twofold: • Firstly we look to ensure that the solutions we deliver are fully optimised to ensure they perform throughout the full life-cycle of their operation. In delivering strategic solutions and building long-term relationships we strive to provide the highest performance levels capable within the technology being considered. • Secondly, we specialise in a range of solutions that can be applied to existing infrastructure where there are specific issues, where performance can be improved or where systems require or would benefit from acceleration. Optimisation solutions can apply to many different areas of technology and Point to Point is capable of providing solutions in the following core areas:
WAN – One of the most prevalent issues in business today is coping with geographical distribution as more and more organisations look to support flexible methods of working, either to increase productivity or to improve access to skills and choice for employees. The fact that work in general is, for many of us, becoming less office-centric means an increased reliance on wide area network communications. Organisations are therefore having to ensure that performance is maintained on the WAN so that supporting these dispersed locations does not impact on daily operations. At Point to Point we partner with leading WAN acceleration technology companies which enable us to improve performance of this key transport network in order to optimise service to the end-user without having to invest in costly bandwidth upgrades, which often don’t solve the underlying issues associated with WAN-based communications.
Web – More and more applications are being presented in a web-based format and not just those truly delivered across the internet, but many organisations’ core lines of business systems are now being presented to end-users through a web browser. The initial objective of the shift towards web-based applications was designed to reduce both the bandwidth requirements and desktop footprint of the application in question. However, experience shows that these goals are not always achieved, with the world of the web presenting its own unique set of delivery challenges. Point to Point works with industry-leading application networking appliances that look to improve and optimise the delivery of these type of applications
Citrix/ Terminal Server Environments – Point to Point has specialised in the delivery of Citrix type solutions for well over a decade and completely understands the challenges that this particular delivery mechanism can present. Commonly, issues present in these types of environments are a result of the underlying configuration, which Point to Point can seek to address through the use of specific, authorised, third-party technologies, or services-based engagements. Using this approach we are able to apply our vast levels of expertise and understanding to improve performance and operation, in a manner to suit each customer’s unique requirements.
Application Management – The installation of applications has traditionally presented a number of challenges around their management including: - Application compatibility issues - Lengthy regression testing - Version control - License compliance At Point to Point we seek to simplify the application management through a variety of means including both centralisation and virtualisation as approaches to this area.
Server Image Management – Standardisation and control of server image have long been issues that vendors have sought to address through a variety of technology. At Point to Point we have extended our virtualisation expertise to include virtualisation of the physical disk image associated with machines. By de-coupling this layer of complexity we can simplify the management process associated with image control.
